Yoga Teacher and Breast Cancer Survivor
Shares Healing Techniques in Unique Instructional Video
Gentle Yoga Speeds Recovery From Breast Cancer Surgery
May 6, 2002, San Diego, CA – Susan Rosen, long time Del Mar, California
resident and yoga teacher has produced and released a highly focused
instructional video aimed at women who have had breast cancer and
subsequent surgery. She has developed this long overdue instructional
video presenting a gentle Yoga program with poses that are specifically
tailored to women who have had breast cancer surgery or radiation
treatments. They will be able to do these simple restorative Yoga poses in the quiet of their own home.
Susan
Rosen, a breast cancer survivor and Yoga teacher, wants to share these
Yoga postures with all women going through breast cancer. Susan
did the poses on a daily basis and was amazed at how quickly her pain
and discomfort were relieved, her range of motion restored and, more
importantly, how it brought her mind to a place of calmness and clarity. Not
only did it help her accelerate her healing compared to other women she
knew who had a mastectomy, but it also helped in healing the mental and
physical scars that remain after surgery and chemotherapy. “Finding out I had breast cancer put my life into chaos. Cancer was not supposed to happen to me. My diet was healthy, I walked everyday and Yoga was part of my daily ritual. I thought I was doing all of the right things. Cancer did not knock on my door – it set up residence uninvited” said Ms. Rosen.
“Why me”, I asked, and the answer was “why not me”. At that moment I realized I was given the gift of yoga. It brought healing and well being back into my life. Yoga gave me back my center of balance.”
In
addition to all the other benefits of practicing Yoga, the poses
presented in the video can help to ease pain and break down scar tissue
while increasing blood flow and promoting faster healing. Susan has
experienced that Yoga in general and these restorative poses in
particular can lower blood pressure and assist in calming and centering
the mind.
These poses, which were passed on to Susan through her
Yoga teachers, emphasize postures that are simple to do for women who
have never tried Yoga. They can be done before and after surgery.
Initial
distribution of the video will be directly through Ms. Rosen. She is
currently seeking distribution through video stores and Yoga
instructors and expects the video to be available countywide before
summer.
